Happy Juneteenth 2023! In June 2021, President Joe Biden signed legislation making Juneteenth a federal holiday.

Juneteenth is a holiday that celebrates when the last enslaved peoples in the US learned about the Emancipation Proclamation. Though slavery had ended nearly 2 years prior, many enslaved people in the South, specifically in Texas, had no idea because they weren’t told.
