Recent issues at the Valencia County Clerk’s office have sparked concerns about its management and the integrity of the election process. The current clerk, Mike Milam, has been criticized for multiple failures, including missing the legally required deadline for canvassing election results, which delayed the certification process.
This failure to meet basic obligations undermines public trust in the office’s ability to manage elections effectively. Additionally, there have been questions raised about the clerk’s personal relationship with his chief deputy clerk, which has cast further doubt on the office’s transparency and accountability. This lack of professionalism and potential conflicts of interest have eroded confidence in the office, especially as the clerk prepares to oversee his own re-election.
Even members of his own party have voiced concerns. Michael Candelaria, the former chairman of the Valencia Republican Party, publicly criticized Milam for poor leadership and a failure to provide proper guidance during critical election moments.
Candelaria pointed out the lack of communication and organization within the office, which created confusion for poll workers and election staff. His remarks highlight that the frustrations with the clerk’s performance extend beyond party lines, showing that voters from all backgrounds are concerned about the current administration’s ability to uphold election integrity.
Mr. Milam’s track record raises serious questions about his ability to manage future elections impartially, especially as he will be overseeing his own election. This situation presents a clear conflict of interest, further complicating the already troubling management of the office. With so many red flags surrounding the current leadership, it’s clear that Valencia County needs a new direction.
Rustin Porter is the candidate who can bring that change. With a strong commitment to transparency, fairness, and efficient management, Rustin will work to ensure that voter registration processes are accurate and that communication between the clerk’s office and voters is clear and timely.
By focusing on integrity and efficiency, Rustin Porter will restore public confidence in the clerk’s office, providing the leadership that has been sorely lacking. His plans to modernize and improve the office are exactly what Valencia County needs to ensure that elections are handled with the professionalism and fairness that voters deserve.
