It’s been 3 weeks, and we told you so. We said all this would happen. The heavy weight of the terror of my loved ones as their rights are stripped away, as they fear for their neighbors, and as they are unsure about their futures and the futures of their children
and grandchildren weighs heavily on my mind. I am not alone in this terror and sorrow. It is collective grief.

We told you so; we said to read Project 2025 or at least listen to those who have and here we are.

We said Trump would do everything he said he was going to and here we are.

We said trans people and immigrants (documented and undocumented) were going to be targeted immediately and cruelly and here we are.

We said that citizens and Indigenous people would be mistakenly targeted in the raids and here we are.

We said all this, and more, and it’s all coming true via unconstitutional executive order and memorandum.

We told you so because we knew the capitulation of agencies would happen. We said it because we recognized the pattern and the history and knew how fragile our existing system was. Now, our leadership is lacking at the national level.

While Melanie Stansbury did a great job addressing the dangers of abolishing DEI measures and how the aim to do so is outright racism(https://www.facebook.com/17841401880104578/videos/5832774146…), there is an overwhelming hole where resistance should be nationally.

What can we, as Democrats, as human beings, do to fight the fascist takeover?
No one is coming to save us. We must save ourselves. If you have enough, share with your neighbors. Get together once a month to share food and check on each other.

If you have time, but not money: volunteer (ideally with mutual and direct aid groups like Food Not Bombs, Valencia County Resource Center, any organization or group of people providing aid.)

If you have money, but not time: donate (ideally directly to people who need it but also to local nonprofit groups, the Transgender Law Center, the Immigrant Law Center, The Trevor Project, etc.).

You do not know anyone’s citizenship status. You do not know if anyone is transgender, gender nonconforming, intersex, or LGBTQ2IA+.

The best practices when encountering law enforcement under these new hostile conditions is generally:
Say nothing*, record everything**

*Ask if you can leave. If you cannot leave, ask for a lawyer and REMAIN SILENT.
**DO NOT interfere with any police, ICE, border and customs patrol, etc. activity.
DO get badge numbers, name of officers, car identification, and other identifying information if available and it is safe to do so

We are all in this now. We all share space, land, and are in community with one another. That means accountability, respect, and learning to understand each other. The fascists will only
continue to divide us. It is up to us to unite.
